The Mothers' Center of Suffolk Childcare Rules

1.      The mother/guardian must be on the premises for the child to be in the Childcare room.

2.      Children must be at least nine months of age to be in Childcare.

3.      Please label all items your child brings from home (toys, bottles, etc.).

4.      A snack is served every week.  Please notify the Childcare staff if your child has any allergies or should not receive snack.

5.      A Child Information Form should be completed when becoming a new member.  Please update the form with any changes as soon as possible.

6.      Please be considerate and do not bring sick children to the Center.

7.      Children are not allowed unattended in the hallway or bathroom at any time.  A Childcare worker will escort children to their mothers for diapering or toileting needs.  Children should always be escorted back to the Childcare Room.

8.      Children are not allowed to go upstairs or in the gymnasium.  Please keep track of them before and after all groups, especially when packing up to leave.

9.      If a child does not adjust within ten minutes or needs refueling, the child will be returned to the mother for comforting. When the child is ready, the mother may return the child to Childcare.

10.  If a child is disruptive in the Childcare Room and cannot be redirected to an acceptable activity, the Childcare staff will return that child to his or her mother for one-on-one attention. Should a disruptive child be returned repeatedly during a single session, we request that the child remain with his or her mother for the remainder of that day's meeting or lecture.

11.  While children are welcome in group and lecture rooms, it is each mother's responsibility to recognize when her child is becoming disruptive to the adult group (e.g., group members having to repeatedly raise their voices above  the child's noise).  In this situation, the mother is asked to try a new approach with her child such as offering a new toy, a lap to sit and snuggle in, a book or a snack. If these efforts do not satisfy the child and the disruption continues, we ask that the mother temporarily remove her child to the hallway for further attention; or the mother and child can return as a pair to the Childcare room. Mothers and children are welcome to return to their group or lecture as soon as the child has settled and is ready to play quietly in the adult room.

12.  If a mother would like to volunteer in Childcare to help her child adjust, she is more than welcome. Please contact the Childcare Supervisor to make arrangements for your visit.

13.  If on occasion Childcare is shorthanded, mothers will be required to help out for a little while during their group.

14.  Please close the door behind you when entering and exiting the Childcare Room, no matter how long or short your stay.  This is to help prevent children from leaving the room on their own.

15.  When children are returned to their mother at the end of a scheduled group, they may not return to the childcare room without their mother.

Feel free to communicate any feelings about the Childcare program to the Childcare Supervisor and/or the Childcare Committee.
